Phosphorus, nitrogen, and algae in Lake Washington after diversion of sewage.
نویسنده
چکیده
After diversion of sewage effluent from Lake Washington, winter concentrations of phosphate and nitrate decreased at different rates. From 1963 to 1969, phosphate decreased to 28 percent of the 1963 concentration, but nitrate remained at more than 80 percent of the 1963 value. Free carbon dioxide and alkalinity remained relatively high. The amount of phytoplanktonic chlorophyll in the summer was very closely related to the mean winter concentration of phosphate, but not to that of nitrate or carbon dioxide.

Phytoplankton growth and phosphate uptake ( for P limitation ) by natural phytoplankton populations from the Loosdrecht lakes ( The Netherlands ) ’
Phosphate uptake capacity of natural phytoplankton populations was used as a physiological indicator of P limitation in the Loosdrecht lakes. During a substantial period of the growth season of 1983, P-limited growth was observed in Lake fireukeleveen and Lake Loosdrecht, but P limitation was less severe in the latter. In Lake Breukeleveen the maximum initial phosphate uptake rate (V,,) varied ...
متن کاملInvestigating the effect of Biodrof systems based on algae-bacterial biofilm for removing total Nitrogen, Phosphorus from domestic wastewater
Due to an increase of the human population on Earth, log of pollutants to water resources has increased and this caused the more restriction of water resources for human. Limited availability of fresh water resources, especially in the Middle East that have arid and semi-arid climate increases the importance of water recycling. The main problem in many conventional wastewater treatment systems ...
متن کاملBioremediation of Sewage Wastewater Using Selective Algae for Manure Production
Phycoremediation is the process of employing algae for removing excess nutrient load from wastewater and subsequently diminish the pollution load. It is an alternative technology of treating sewage wastewater compare to conventional treatment process in economical and sustainable way. Therefore, in the present investigation we had made an effort to phycoremediate the IARI’s sewage wastewater wi...
متن کاملPhysicochemical Process, Crustacean, and Microcystis Biomass Changes In Situ Enclosure after Introduction of Silver Carp at Meiliang Bay, Lake Taihu
In order to control cyanobacteria blooms with silver carp in Lake Taihu, an in situ experiment was carried out by stocking silver carp at a biomass of 35, 70, and 150 g m-3 and no carp control in waterproof enclosures. Physicochemical water parameters and biomass of plankton were measured in enclosures to evaluate the suitable stocking density of silver carp for relieving internal nutrients and...

The Qu’Appelle Valley drainage system provides water to a third of the population of the Canadian Great Plains, yet is plagued by poor water quality, excess plant growth, and periodic fish kills. Fossil algae (diatoms, pigments) and invertebrates (chironomids) in Pasqua Lake were analyzed by variance partitioning analysis (VPA) to determine the relative importance of climate, resource use, and ...
